The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb Welcomes Competitor Applications on November 15

Colorado Springs——It’s time to begin assembling another classy field of drivers and riders for America’s second-oldest motorsport race, The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, brought to you by Gran Turismo.

The 2018 Race is set for Sunday, June 24, and the popular Fan Fest will take place Friday, June 22 in Downtown Colorado Springs.

The Request for Invitation process for competitors hoping to be part of the field for the 96th Running of the Race to the Clouds will open on November 15, 2017 and close on January 5, 2018. The field will be announced on January 18, 2018 on thePPIHC website: accompanied by a media release.

In order to allow more practice time for competitors, and to facilitate a more efficient Race Day experience for competitors and spectators, the PPIHC will again limit the field to approximately 100 vehicles. Invited entries will be chosen through the Request for Invitation process by the PPIHC Selection Committee.

“We are expecting a great lineup of drivers and riders again for the 96th running of this legendary race,” said PPIHC Executive Director Megan Leatham. “We have streamlined the entries and added new amenities to enhance the experience for both fans and competitors.”

The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb known as The Race to the Clouds, is the internationally famous annual invitational automobile and motorcycle hill climb to the 14,115-foot summit of Pikes Peak – America’s Mountain.

Founded in 1916 by Spencer Penrose who also founded The Broadmoor Hotel, the Pikes Peak Highway and the El Pomar Foundation, the race takes place on a 12.42 mile (19.99 km) public toll road boasting 156 turns, while competitors climb 4,720 ft. (1,440 m.) from the 9,390 ft. (2,862 m.) Start Line at the Mile 7 marker to the 14,115 ft. (4,300 m) Finish Line at the mountain’s summit.

The self-sanctioned race is the most diverse one-day motorsport event in the world featuring Sidecars, Motorcycles, and 1,400+hp EV & Unlimited Racers competing in the same event.

PPIHC Pit Area Now Fully Paved

After several years of working to improve the infrastructure for competitors participating in the PPIHC, the PPIHC Board of Directors is excited to announce that the Pit Area on Pikes Peak – America’s Mountain is now fully paved.¬† This project has been ongoing for several years, and would not have been possible without the contributions of many members of the community and local organizations. The PPIHC would like to thank Mayor John Suthers, Fred Veitch, Bobby Ingels, The City of Colorado Springs, Jack Glavan, Pikes Peak- America’s Mountain, Pike National Forest, Colorado Springs Utilities, Martin Marietta, US Forest Service, Rockwell Consulting, Nor’wood Development, and the countless other companies and individuals that devoted their time and energy to make this project happen.
