Colorado Springs——– The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb has selected Jack Glavan, Manager of Pikes Peak-America’s Mountain, as the driver of the Official Pace Car to open the race on Sunday, June 25.
Glavan will be driving the 2018 Acura TLX, which has been selected by the PPIHC as the Official Pace Car for the 95th running of the Race to the Clouds.
The recently introduced 2018 Acura TLX A-Spec features a 3.5-liter, 290-horsepower V6 mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission and Acura’s exclusive torque vectoring Super-Handling All Wheel Drive (SH-AWD®) system.
The Official Pace Car will leave the Start Line for the 14,115-foot summit of Pikes Peak at 7:30 a.m. The Green Flag will drop at 8:00 a.m. Glavan will also lead the Parade of Champions down the mountain after the race.
“We are proud to recognize Jack Glavan for his ongoing support, effort, special skills, and wisdom relative to the famous Pikes Peak Highway and its critical role in the Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, The Broadmoor Pikes Peak Cycling Hill Climb and the USA Cycling Hill Climb National Championships,” said Megan Leatham, Executive Director of the PPIHC. “Having Jack at the wheel of the Official Pace Car will be a thrill for all the men and women who make this spectacular event a huge success each summer.”
Glavan was honored during the 2016 Colorado Springs Sports Hall of Fame Banquet and Induction Ceremony with the presentation of a Special Recognition Award from the Colorado Springs Sports Corporation.
“I am honored to be selected as the pace car driver for the 95th edition of the world’s toughest motorsport hill climb,” said Glavan. “The 2018 Acura TLX A-Spec is a magnificent automobile and I look forward to demonstrating its abilities on this 12-mile course to the summit of Pikes Peak in front of enthusiastic race fans on the course, and those watching across America and around the world.”
Glavan has been a fixture at the Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb since joining the Pikes Peak staff, and vividly recalls not only the transition from a gravel road to today’s completely-paved asphalt highway, but the amazing speed records recently set by PPIHC drivers and riders.
“As manager of Pikes Peak-America’s Mountain, I’ve watched competitors challenge the mountain and witnessed their excitement at “summiting” during the race,” says Glavan. “And I look forward to “summiting” the 2018 Acura TLX A-Spec on June 25.”
