The Pikes Peak Auto Hill Climb Educational Museum, Inc. (PPAHCEM), a Colorado non-profit corporation, was incorporated October 24, 1988, to advance the causes of automobile safety and education by means of the preservation, collection, and exhibition of automotive memorabilia, particularly memorabilia associated with Pikes Peak and the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.  The primary function of the museum is to collect and display cars, memorabilia, equipment, technology and unique features of the “Race to the Clouds.”  With the assistance of the El Pomar Foundation and others, the PPAHCEM will achieve its goals for the benefit of the Pikes Peak Region.

In 1998 during the year of the 75th race, Nick Sanborn, asked Dwight Wenger and Jim Reilly to co-chair a committee, along with Jan Pettit, to create new displays, interview former drivers and prepare a new narrated slide program. This was a project near and dear to Dwight. “I did extensive research on the drivers and race times. The slide show is from 1956 to 1992” said Dwight. Asked when he started attending the race he said “Since 1930 and now I am the oldest member of our club after Don Lawrie, who was 100, passed away”.

The permanent facility in Manitou Springs was closed in September of 2000. This was a great disappointment to the social group of car owners, drivers, mechanics, officials and other race enthusiasts know as the Over The Hill Gang.  To take its place, PPAHCEM is very proud to have a mobile museum, opened in June of 2005.  It is now available for display at local, statewide and national events and educational facilities.

As the Over the Hill Gang rolls out for the 90th running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, our information-packed mobile museum which features many historical items will again be involved in sharing the wonderful history of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
